dear diary,
Fame 2009 was good but wasn’t outright amazing. I’ve not actually seen the original, but I would’ve expected a lot more. I also expected them to dance to Fame the song (thought that woulda been obvious, no?) – terribly disappointed that they didn’t! Why!? I LOVED the carnival scene which opened with Santigold’s ‘You’ll Find a Way’, i thought that was amazing. Superb choreography and perfect choice of song. The Sam Sparro ‘Black & Gold’ dance is also a good one. They had many unknown actors and I feel the ones that we may be seeing more of are Kay Panabaker, Walter Perez and Collins Pennie. This May 16th marks the 30th anniversary since the original Fame movie was released, making them significantly responsible for the whole 80s pop dance culture. Heck, we should all make it a point to go watch Irene Cara in action.
Fame!

dear diary,
i watched this because i wanted to see mariah carey’s acting and what she looks like without make-up. And sure enough, she still had the diva in her shining through. But the star of this movie wasn’t her, it was Gabourey ‘Gabby’ Sidibe who played her part well, and so did the lady who played mom. The movie was good, but wasn’t particularly mind-blowing for me. And I find it a little hard to believe that life can be THAT unlucky for anybody. I especially liked Joann, played by Xosha Roquemore, who was always enthusiastic in class and brought some life (and some fashion sense) into the otherwise pessimistic movie. Oh, and I didn’t know until the end credits that Oprah was one of em executive producers. That explains why Mariah’s in there.
