I AM GLAM hits #1 on hitz.fm

hitzfm-number1

dear diary,

This probably means nothing to most people – but for me the day has FINALLY arrived where I see my own baby at #1 on hitz.fm‘s MET 10 chart. And it feels so good i think i’m gonna cry. Lol. Couldn’t have done this without you, Ruben! Wooh! xx

dear diary,

i’ve forgotten how mentally draining it is to complete a full-length album. And, it’s not like i’m working completely alone either (thank goodness), but i just CANNOT wait to get this baby out! I say it’s mostly mentally tiring rather than physical because it’s 90% decisions. Librans suck at making decisions, fyi. It’s been 3 and half years in the making now, cause Ruben and I first started working on ‘Boys I Like’ in summer 2006.

Being impatient has to be one of my worst qualities, or not?

Ze! interview on Voize

dear diary,

My interview with Charlene is out on Voize today;

“Ze! started gigging 10 years ago, as a rapper in an all-girl RnB group who have always idolised the female rapper called Left Eye from the female hip hop trio, TLC. After the group disbanded, she went solo and experimented with different genres of music and was looking for THE sound that would fit her. It wasn’t until she met her current producer, Ruben Debusschere, that she discovered dance music about 4 or 5 years ago. Ze’s new songs “I AM GLAM” and “CANDY” has just been picked up by MTV for their new show STYL’D – which first episode had just been premiered last Sunday! Her talented sister has also just won 3rd place at a DJ mixing championship. Need to know more about this spunky and talented individual? Then continue on reading the exclusive VOIZE interview with Ze!” – Charlene Joseph

I AM GLAM (official music video)

dear diary,

Just uploaded on youtube, the final cut. Soon to come, full HD on vimeo. Whoa!

LYRICS
(In case you wanna sing-along, turn this into a karaoke or poetry.)

They live in the superficial
They don’t know who I am
They wanna take me for granted
But they don’t know what I glam

I, I, I, am what I glam
Glam, glam, glam glam I am

I wanna live on a high
Where they all know who I am
Get drunk on absolutely nothing
And party in amsterdam

Where I can be whatever I want
And don’t have to dress to impress anyone
Check out the boys lookin so fine
They don’t yet know but they’re already mine

Come on

Freaky funky hot
Hotter hottest on the dancefloor
Party party party on
Dance all night til you break a bone

Music, magic, live it, tragic
Satisfy, my love, fanatic
I may be small but I can cause traffic
And I don’t even have to be erotic

reminiscing the shameless, 090905-090909

dear diary,

4 years ago, i called myself Saer Ze and was obsessed with rainbows, stars, wands, and wigs. It might have been the fact that I had a nice boyfriend and did not see the point of obsessing over boys then. Looking back at the pictures of my debut album launch, I suppose there couldn’t have been a more appropriate name for the album. It sure has been a long journey from the day of the launch now and so much of my music and image has changed! I’m very excited about my new baby coming along and nothing’s better than looking back at the faces that have always been there through it all to support me.

You guys rock socks.

p/s: Saer Ze still remains as my songwriter pseudonym.

ze! album : in progress

dear diary,

I cannot believe i posted this almost ONE whole year ago. And said it would be out early this year. And then, had a release date set in August. And now, fingers crossed it is set to be out before my upcoming birthday. Turning 25, again, that is.

But I promise you it will be worth the wait.

I’ve now one more song left to write – hallelujah! Recorded my vocals for a track I’m working on with french producer Alan de Laniere earlier today. Here’s a quick shot of my little vocal recording space (hardly even a booth) – equipped only with a mic, my mbox and a purple pantyhose for a pop filter. This is when I miss being spoilt with super sexy studios SAE has had to offer – oh, the good ol’ days :)

i am glam original lyrics

dear diary,

I must be psychic. I was working on a new song today and thought I should go look for the original copy of ‘I AM GLAM‘ lyrics which I wrote whilst in de Rockfabriek studio with Ruben last year – because it was one of those lyrics I wrote on some random piece of paper and was missing from my songwriting book. By some freak chance, unintentionally found it while cleaning my room just hours later.

Hello, madam zorra.

Ze! on Bella Disco

dear diary,

I am featured today on Bella Disco!;

“One artist I’ve been following since last year has been a lovely girl called “ZE!” (pronounced “zay.”) Ze is an electropop singer and songwriter located in the UK, but she originated from Malaysia. Her influences for her sound are: MIA, Santogold, Yelle, New Young Pony Club and Peaches. She’s been working with Belgian producer Ruben Debusschere to create her album.”

The Ripple Effect reviews ‘I Am Glam’

dear diary,

Todd from The Ripple Effect writes a review on ‘I Am Glam’;

“Perhaps not something that you’d expect to be reviewed on the Ripple, but then we always told you there were no barriers to our mad search for music, as long as it entertains us. And that’s exactly what this one does. This time coming from Kuala Lumpur, Ze (pronounced Zay) teamed up with Belgian producer Ruben Debusschere to create a short-strapped handbag worth of radiant trashy dance music. Or as Ze says herself, she is one loud and bitchy electropop singer. And trust me, what she says is true. “I Am Glam,” is her self-penned piece-de-resistance, an absolute gutter-fest of the trashiest electropop drum and bass you’ll put your eye shadow on to. Looping Yaz-style synths, programmed beats, and then there’s Ze, wailing on in her raving bitchfest that “I am what I am/Glam is what I am.” And it’s her attitude that makes the song work and the whole thing so endearing. Rather than coo like some puffed up diva, Ze belts the song out with so much passion and conviction, it’s almost punk. And that’s the way I’ll leave it. Absolute trashy punky electropop, guaranteed to get the bodies moving on the dancefloor, the boys bouncing under the strobe lights, and girls fighting over their Gucci bags. Just what the doctor ordered to get the party started.”

Spot on! :)
